| Date:2024-01-08

The School of Information Science and Engineering (SISE) of Hebei University of Science and Technology was established in December 1999, originating from the Electronics Department of Hebei Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering founded in 1986. The Applied Electronics program began admitting its first undergraduate students as early as 1984, followed by Computer Application in 1985 and Telecommunication Engineering in 1998. Presently, there are approximately 2,200 undergraduate students and around 440 postgraduate students enrolled in SISE.

The SISE offers six undergraduate’s programs: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Space Security, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Communication Engineering. The Computer Science and Technology major is designated as a national first-class major development site for undergraduates, while Electronic Information Engineering is recognized as a provincial first-class major development site for undergraduates, with five provincial excellent courses available online.

The School has one provincial key discipline in Computer Software and Theory, two first-level academic masters degree authorization center in Computer Science and Technology and Information and Communication Engineering, as well as three professional masters degree authorization center in Next-generation Electronic Information Technology (including Quantum Technology), Communication Engineering (including Broadband Networks, Mobile Communications), and Computer Technology.

Its departments include Computer Science, Network Security, Electronic Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals Teaching Department, Computer Fundamentals Teaching Department, and an Experimental Center. Additionally, it comprises eight research laboratories such as the Hebei University of Science and Technology Software Technology Research Institute, Satellite Navigation Technology Research Center, Big Data and Intelligent Information Search Laboratory, and the Testing and Measurement Technology Laboratory. The School also established five provincial and municipal-level research and teaching platforms, including the Hebei Province Internet of Things Technology Innovation Center, High-Resolution Earth Observation System Data Application Technology Center, Hebei Engineering Research Center for Critical Illness Data Analysis and Intelligent Diagnosis, Shijiazhuang City Intelligent Communication Internet of Things Industrial Technology Research Institute, and Hebei Province Electronic Information Undergraduate Education Innovation Highland.

The School boasts a dynamic and proficient teaching faculty, comprising 160 staff members, including two joint Ph.D. supervisors, five members of the China Computer Federation and Electronic Society Professional Committee, three members of the Hebei Computer Teaching Steering Committee, and 12 vice-chairpersons or council members of societies such as the Hebei Computer Society, Electronic Society, and Electrical Engineering Technology Society. It also includes one recipient of the Hebei May 1st Labor Medal and one outstanding teacher recognized by Hebei Province.

Adhering to the philosophy of nurturing talents and committing to the all-round development of human, the School emphasizes practical skills, innovation, teamwork, and overall abilities of its students. Over the years, students have achieved outstanding results in various competitions like the National Challenge Cup, National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, and Computer Design Competition. Graduates are highly sought after by corporations and enterprises due to their strong professional competence and practical skills. Notable employers for graduates include companies such as IBM, Baidu, JD.com, ByteDance, Hikvision, and NSFOCUS. Moreover, numerous undergraduates and post-graduate students pursue further studies at prestigious domestic and international universities such as the University of New South Wales, University of Sheffield, Peking University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Southeast University, and Shandong University.

In the face of new opportunities and challenges, the School will continue to uphold the motto of “entrepreneurship and accountability”, valuing diligence, pragmatism, innovation, and striving for “commitment to the all-round development of human, and contribution to regional economic construction and social progress”!
