Computer Science and Technology Undergraduate Major
Computer Science and Technology Department was established in 1985, offering undergraduate program in “Computer and Applications”. In 2000, we obtained the authority to confer a master’s degree in “Computer Application Technology”. In 2005, our program “Computer Software and Theory” was recognized as a key provincial discipline. In 2010, it was granted the authority to confer a first-level master’s degree in “Computer Science and Technology”. In 2013, the undergraduate program in “Computer Science and Technology” was included in the list of first batch admissions, and in 2019, it was selected as a first-class undergraduate program construction base in Hebei Province. In 2022, it was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction points.
In terms of faculty, the department currently has 25 teachers, including 11 professors. The percentage of teachers with doctoral degrees is 62%, and 41% with overseas experience. Two teachers have been selected for the “333 Talents Project” in Hebei Province, while two teachers are joint doctoral supervisors at the Australian National University. In recent years, our faculty has undertaken more than 40 national natural science fund projects, provincial projects, and horizontal projects.
In terms of curriculum, the computer science and technology major provides courses that support students in mastering the basic theoretical knowledge related to computation and computational system abstraction, cultivating their computational thinking, basic algorithm, programming design, and system capabilities, and enabling them to apply this knowledge to design, implement, or deploy complex computing systems. The main courses include Microcomputer Principles and Applications, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Compilers, Operating Systems, Computer Organization Principles, Database Principles and Applications, Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Computer System Architecture, etc.
In terms of student cultivation, emphasis is placed on theoretical foundations as well as the cultivation of students’ practical abilities. Course resources and experimental platforms from companies are also introduced, such as Baidu, Amazon, and Huawei, and hire mentors for joint training with enterprises. Diversified practical platforms are utilized to cultivate students’ hands-on practical abilities such as scientific laboratories, innovation centers, and enterprise practice bases. A training method that encourages competition-based learning is also established with a three-level competition system consisting of university-level competitions, provincial competitions, and national competitions.
