Software Engineering Undergraduate Major
With the development of the national economy and the increasing level of informatization, there is a growing demand for software talents in society. In 2002, the Ministry of Education of China added the major of Software Engineering. Our college was among the first to apply for the undergraduate program in Software Engineering and had been successfully approved. In 2003, the first batch of students was enrolled for the undergraduate program in Software Engineering. In 2005, “Computer Software and Theory” was recognized as a key provincial discipline in Hebei Province. In 2019, Hebei University of Science and Technology started a partnership with the Australian National University to offer undergraduate education. Unlike the Computer Science and Technology major, the Software Engineering major focuses on engineering development education and aims to cultivate practical and versatile software professionals, with a training model that aligns more closely with market demands. The annual enrollment scale is 2-3 classes, and the current student population is around 340.
The Software Engineering major relies on the key provincial discipline of “Computer Software and Theory” with boasts strong faculty and comprehensive strength. Rooted in Hebei Province, the university is dedicated to serve regional economic development and emphasize the cultivation of international talents. In accordance with national and regional economic and information industry development needs, personalized education reforms is promoted to advocate practical and innovative entrepreneurial education, so as to cultivate graduates with good humanistic qualities, social responsibility, innovative awareness, and teamwork spirit. Students in this major will be equipped with solid foundational knowledge in natural sciences and engineering, with a strong grasp of computer software theory and basic skills, and the capability of software analysis, design, development, and project management capabilities. Students are cultivated with an international perspective, the ability to participate in international competition, by proficiently using advanced software engineering tools, mastering modern software engineering development models, being independent and proactive in innovation and willing to explore new horizons, and being capable of independently or collaboratively completing tasks such as system analysis, design, and testing in specific application areas. The major aims to cultivate high-quality applied talents with practical abilities and an innovative spirit.
The Software Engineering major emphasizes the engineering nature of software development, enabling students to proficiently master the necessary foundational knowledge, basic methods, and skills required for software requirements analysis, software design, software testing, software maintenance, and software project management. It is committed to cultivate advanced professionals who can engage in software development, testing, maintenance, and software project management.
